Curriculum Intent Statement
At Gunthorpe Primary the curriculum is designed to: recognise children’s prior learning, provide first hand learning experiences, allow the children to develop interpersonal skills, build resilience and become creative, critical thinkers.
Every child is recognised as a unique individual. We celebrate and welcome differences within our school community. The ability to learn is underpinned by the teaching of basic skills, knowledge, concepts and values. We consistently provide enhanced opportunities to engage in themed learning and believe that childhood should be a happy, investigative and enquiring time in our lives, where there are no limits to curiosity and there is a thirst for new experiences and knowledge. Therefore, educational visits, immersion days and outdoor learning are at the heart of our thematic, enriched curriculum, we believe these first hand experiences equip our children with lifelong memories that enhance and embed their learning. We use our Curriculum Drivers (Communication, Ambition, Curiosity, Creativity, Resilience and Growth) to promote positive attitudes to learning which reflect the values and skills needed to encourage responsibility for learning and future success.
Parental and community involvement is an essential part of our curriculum. We endeavour to educate the children and school community so that they will go forward to be a positive influence on society and the environment.
Children leave the school with enquiring minds and embedded life skills. They are secondary ready and have the confidence to take risks, be evaluative and become life long learners.
